Part Nine: Special Dances

When we got to the reception, we hugged on a few people really quickly before going ahead and getting the special dances out of the way.  I cried.  A lot.  They were all very emotional.  Enjoy the pictures!

Mr. Robinson and I danced our first dance as a married couple to "Stolen" by Dashboard Confessionals.

I watch you spin around in your highest heels
You are the best one, of the best ones
We all look like we feel
You have stolen my
You have stolen my
You have stolen my
You have stolen my heart

Then, Daddy and I danced the father/daughter dance to "You Are My Sunshine" by Bing Crosby.  He has always called me his sunshine and used to sing that song to me every night before I went to sleep when I was a little girl.

You are my sunshine my only sunshine you make me happy when skies're grey
You'll never know dear how much I love you please don't take my sunshine away
You told me once dear you really loved me and no one else could come between
But now you've left me and you love another you have shatered all my dreams
You are my sunshine...

Mr. Robinson and his mom shagged for the mother/son dance.  It was absolutely precious and a nice change of pace since I was already crying like a baby.  :)  Their song was "How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You" by James Taylor.

How sweet it is to be loved by you
How sweet it is to be loved by you
I needed the shelter of someone's arms and there you were
I needed someone to understand my ups and downs and there you were
With sweet love and devotion
Deeply touching my emotions
I want to stop and thank you

Later into the reception, we had another special dance.  We asked our DJ to pick any random love song (and of course he ended up choosing a song we'd never heard before) and get all of the married couples to come out onto the dance floor.  We started dancing and after the first minute he told all of the couples (besides the bride & groom) who had been married for 5 years or less to sit down.  After about 30 seconds, he told everyone who had been married for 10 years or less to sit down, and so on and so forth until it was just us and both sets of my grandparents dancing.  When the song was over, the couple who had been married the longest was handed a microphone and instructed to give us some marriage advice.  My daddy's parents had been married the longest out of everyone there (which we didn't know!) and advised us to love each other, not take any crap from each other, and to always apologize - even if you aren't wrong.

By the way, today is our 8 month wedding anniversary.  Dear Mr. Robinson,  8 months ago we danced and snuggled and made googly eyes at each other.  Thank you for marrying me.  =)  Thanks for picking me to spend forever with.  Thanks for being a good rat-dog-daddy.  We adore you.  Let's try to make googly eyes at each other every day, k?  I love you.  Kishes!

How awesome was it to find out that your grandparents had been married for longer than you thought!?! I had never heard of that idea of having married couples dance together and then having the longest married couple standing! That is a GREAT idea! I will have to share. I hope you don't mind!

haha uhm, glad to realize later that "shagged" is a sort of dance...and not what it means in England...

love your first dance song - love when people choose something that is actually meaningful to them + untraditional. :)

the married people's dance is great. i thought about doing that for a brief flicker of a second, but seeing as both my parents and ryan's parents and even a few grandparents are divorced it would've just been awkward and not the feeling we wanted at our reception. but it is so sweet for those couples that are able to!! :)
