Homemade Spaghetti "Sweet Sauce" Recipe

The secret to delicious Italian meals is a good sauce.
A good sauce is made great after it sits in the fridge for a few days.
The secret to my great sauce is brown sugar.  :)

Here's my Homemade Spaghetti "Sweet Sauce" recipe:

Ingredients
1 jar Franceso Rinaldi Spaghetti Sauce (because the jar is pretty & it's the cheapest brand at Wal-Mart!)
1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
1 small can (6 oz) tomato paste
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp minced garlic
1 tbsp garlic powder
1 tbsp salt
2 tbsp Italian seasoning
1/8 tsp basil leaves
1/8 tsp oregano
1/2 tbsp ground black pepper

Steps
Mix all of the ingredients together in a large pot.
Cook on high until the sauce bubbles.
Reduce heat to low, slow cook for at least one hour.

It's delicious.  Inspired by the pizza we ate on our honeymoon.  Enjoy!  =)

I put brown sugar in my sauce once, and the hubby saw it before he could taste it. He was not a happy camper! Needless to say, I wasn't allowed to use brown sugar for a while. I loved the flavor it gave! My hubs is a stick in the mud sometimes and won't try new things with food.

going to try this. A guy at work brought spaghetti one night. I normally don't eat others spaghetti sauce because I am a bit bland and don't like all the spices. His was the best sauce I have ever in my life eaten. He wouldn't give me the recipe but he said it had brown sugar and cocoa. I have googled and couldn't find any that sounded similar, most sauces only use a couple spoons of brown sugar. I like that yours has more. Hoping it turns out like his :).
